We believe that it's our responsibility to lead the way in implementing sustainable practices within our business.
At Target Furniture, we're continuously reimagining how to source and recycle materials, reflecting the values of our customers, who are becoming more aware of the importance of purchasing sustainably manufactured products.
From recycling and refurbishing furniture in need of repairs to avoid landfill, to finding new, innovative ways to reduce our carbon emissions - sustainability is a core focus for Target Furniture.
SUSTAINABLE SOURCING
The value we place in sustainability within our operations at Target Furniture is paramount. We take important measures to ensure that the materials used in the production of our furniture are ethically and sustainably sourced. Target Furniture verifies sourcing standards. We are proud to work with reputable, sustainable suppliers in China, Malaysia, and Vietnam, and with our network of long-standing suppliers here in New Zealand. It's important to us that we're partnering with suppliers who do their bit to reduce carbon emissions.
OUR ELECTRIC VEHICLE PROGRAM
We've embarked on an EV initiative that connects our staff with the community. Our recent EV Programme gives our employees an incredible opportunity to drive their own electric vehicle.
The programme grants everyone in our nationwide team - across our retail stores, warehouse, and head office - access to an electric vehicle, inside and outside of work hours, to use at their leisure.
The two Nissan Leaf electric vehicle options available include a 24kw battery model that has a range of up to 120km, and a 30kW model with a range of up to 160km.
This unique arrangement involves team members, who've opted-in for an electric vehicle, paying a set fee each week, with these fees paying for servicing, the Warrant of Fitness (WOF), registration and insurance.
Our EV Programme, based on current fuel and electricity prices, will save some team members up to $3,000 a year. It's also designed to encourage our team members to be more conscious of the impact they're having on the environment as they kickstart their own sustainability journeys.
Through our EV Programme, and our recycling and repurposing procedures, Target is proudly leading the way in implementing sustainable practices.
There is no reason for New Zealand not to be leading the charge with EVs, so we see it as the perfect fit. After a successfully completed pilot trial, we now have 31 Target Furniture employees benefiting from the electric vehicles - and this will only continue to grow over the coming months. Together, our team members have clocked up almost a hundred-thousand kilometres to date. We've estimated a goal of one million km can be achieved within three years.

REPURPOSING & RECYCLING
Playing our part in helping reduce Aotearoa's landfill is important to us, and we've set up initiatives in-store to help manage excess waste. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we refurbish furniture in need of repairs and rehome it when possible.
We work hard to ensure as little packaging as possible is used, while still protecting the furniture to a high quality. Where possible, we encourage our customers to return their packaging to Target Furniture stores, or give it to the delivery driver when their goods are delivered, so it can be recycled through our in-store recycling programme.
